Sponsoring Judo Champion, Henry Wakes
The Alty Funeral Service are delighted to announce we are sponsoring Judo Champion, Henry Wakes, as he is about to approach the qualification period for the Olympic Games in 2024.
Henry is originally from Blackburn and fights in the -66kg category for Great Britain Judo. He started training full time at 16 years old, and sacrificed moving away from his family to train with leading coaches and partners.
Henry has been on the GB squad for 8 years and represented all over the globe. Some of these include: the European Youth Olympic Festival, European Championships, World Championships and Brazil International Teams. He also picked up his first European Cup Medal in Lithuania before the pandemic started and all competitions halted. After dealing with a knee injury at the start of this year, Henry has since returned to Judo. He is back out on the international circuit, competing in competitions in Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia and Spain.
Henry’s ultimate goal is to go to the Olympic Games. As the qualification period is due to start, we are supporting Henry to help him have the best chance of getting there.
